World football governing body FIFA have ordered that Nigeria premier league side Akwa United be docked three points should they fail to pay off Meshack Chukwubuikem and his agent.
It is believed that Nigeria cup holders Akwa owe the player and his agent, Ojore Oka, a total of N2.5 million.
FIFA have instructed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the past year to open disciplinary proceedings against Akwa United over the non-payment of agency fees agreed with the FIFA-licensed agent of their former player Chukwubuikem. Meshack,
It would be recalled, had a very successful loan period with Akwa United during the 2012/2013 season before he left the club. A
ccording to the final decision of the FIFA disciplinary committee after a series of letters to Akwa United management dated June 9, 2015, revealed that the club are guilty of failing to comply with the decision passed by the Single Judge of the players’ status committee on 23 September 2014 and are, therefore, in violation of art. 64 of the FIFA disciplinary code.
“The club Akwa United are granted a final period of grace of 30 days as from notification of the present decision in which to settle its debt to the creditor, the players’ agent, Dr Ojore Oka,” read the ruling in part.
If the payment is not made by this deadline, the creditor may demand in writing from the secretariat to the FIFA disciplinary committee that three (3) points be deducted from the debtor’s first team in the domestic league championship.”
