Akwa Ibom state governor, Emmanuel Udoh, has dissolved the board of the state-owned team Akwa United following the club’s shocking ouster in the preliminary stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The new board will be headed by sports journalist and administrator Paul Bassey who has been mandated to run the affairs of the club for the next three months when a permanent board will be constituted.
Akwa United lost 6-5 on penalties to Congolese side, Vita Club Mokanda last weekend.
The Promise Keepers looked on course to making it to the first round of the competition after recording a 1-0 win against the same opponents in the first leg in Pointre Noire, but lost 1-0 in the return fixture with penalties needed to seperate both teams.
The Maurice Cooreman-led side will take on Heartland in a match four fixture in the Nigeria Professional Football League on Wednesday.
