Heartland Secures First League Win; First Lagos Derby In 18 Years Ends In Stalemate

Heartland secured their first win of the season, thanks to a 1-0 victory over Lobi Stars at the Dan Anyiam Stadium.

The Lagos derby between Ikorodu United and MFM FC, the first in 18 years, failed to produce any goal but did not end without a talking point as Bashiru Monsuru was sent off on 45 minutes.

The MFM defender got booked twice within seconds, with the second caution being for dissent, leaving his team to play the whole of the second half with 10 men. MFM also have 10 points but sit in third place.

Warri Wolves defeated Niger Tornadoes 1-0, Shooting Stars beat Giwa FC 2-1, while Rivers United beat Nasarawa United 1-0.

Enyimba had a disappointing afternoon at the Karkanda Stadium in Katsina against El-Kanemi Warriors, losing 0-2. Chinedu Ohanachom ran the champions ragged and capped his performance with the opening goal. Ibrahim Mustapha scored the second on 54 minutes. Enyimba are in 17th place.

Rivers United needed a late Guy Kuemian goal to edge Nasarawa United and move into fifth position from seventh.

Sunshine Stars, despite sacking their head coach and technical director last week, are still without a win after four matches as they have Kunle Odunlami to thank for a late goal that cancelled out Okereke Maduabuchi’s goal for FC Ifeanyiubah.
