It was a bizarre moment for Leicester City players to be prevented from clubbing and seeing their fellow colleagues and rivals from Tottenham – Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier and Nacer Chadli allowed entry into the same club.
According to Daily Mail, Danny Drinkwater, who was celebrating his 26th birthday, was joined by teammates Andy King, Matty James and Ben Hamer when he was turned away from Mayfair venue Drama on Saturday night and were made to ‘negotiate’ with bouncers for almost 45 minutes.
‘It looked like no-one outside the club recognised them,’ adding: ‘They weren’t drunk or playing the big “I am” or anything. There was no “Don’t you know who I am?”‘
The Leicester City players – who earn a collective £95k per week – were also seen making frantic phonecalls as they tried to pull some strings.
But the source explained that the players ‘seemed OK’ until their rivals walked straight into the venue, forcing them to give up and call a taxi.
Danny, who is signed to the club until 28, had been suited and booted with his companions, after turning 26 that day.
Leicester had beaten Watford 1-0 a few hours earlier to restore their advantage over Spurs to five points, after their lead pursuers drew 2-2 with Arsenal earlier in the day.
