Manchester United’s preparation for a new season under Jose Mourinho has began in earnest as the players and staff flew out to China on Tuesday afternoon
Mourinho named a 25-man squad for the tour on Tuesday morning, which includes matches against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City in the Far East.
Mourinho has only had one match, a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the weekend, and one week in training with his new group of players to decide who will travel to China for the next week.
Sam Johnstone, who played 82 minutes against Wigan, beat Joel Castro Pereira to the third goalkeeping spot, as he was named alongside David de Gea and Sergio Romero for those who will compete for a place in goal over the coming days.
Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia, who both played at the Copa America earlier in the summer like Romero, are also in the squad, whilst all five Reds that exited Euro 2016 at the round of 16 stage are in the travelling party, too.
New signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will both also travel, as well as a number of academy players, including Axel Tuanzebe, who Mourinho picked out for praise after facing Wigan.
